Alaska Rainbow Lodge was built in 1982 by legendary Alaskan guide and outfitter Ron Hayes and his wife, Sharon. They picked a location ideally suited to provide access to some of the best fishing in the world, and also ensure fantastic fishing days no matter the weather.

The lodge started as a single building with 4 guest rooms, kitchen, dining room, and lounge with a capacity of 8-10 guests per week. Ron was never one to leave things well enough alone; he constantly expanded the lodge and supporting infrastructure with yearly projects. The lodge now consists of almost 30 buildings and resembles a small city. Without a doubt, ARL possesses the finest infrastructure of any remote lodge in Bristol Bay.

With Ron and Sharon at the helm, Alaska Rainbow Lodge defined fly-out fishing in Bristol Bay for over three decades. They earned a reputation for getting their guests to the best fishing locations, excellent accommodations, and incredible food. Ron always strived to provide his guests with the best: having the best aircraft, boats, fishing equipment, and guides available.

Current Owner, Chip Ferguson, began working for Ron in 2008 while on summer break from Texas A&M University. Starting as camp-hand, Chip progressed each successive summer as guide, pilot / guide, and full-time lodge pilot positions. As Ron and Sharon began to think about retirement in 2014, Chip and his wife, Amanda, explored the possibility of taking over the lodge and made the decision to go for it! Chip and Amanda took over operations in the 2016 season. Building on Ron and Sharon’s experience and 10 seasons of working and living at the lodge, Chip and Amanda are excited to build on that legacy and continue providing incomparable Alaskan adventures to the next generation of fishermen.
