This week we take a look at Alaska fishing guide/pilot Bret Nicholson as our featured guide. Bret has been with us for the past three years as a guide and is returning this year as one of our pilots! We are always excited to see Bret’s smiling face around the lodge as he’s making sure everyone is as happy as he is.
Where are you from?
I grew up just outside of the Bay Area in California, first in Livermore and then Tracy.
What do you do in your offseason?
Most of my working life after high school has revolved around working at ARL. My past 3 off seasons have been spent obtaining new licenses and ratings in an effort to become a pilot at the lodge. My dad owns a heating and air conditioning business, which keeps me busy during any time I am not in school. For 2017 I will be looking to guide and/or fly year round, through a couple of seasonal jobs ( ARL being one of them).
What would you say your favorite species of fish to fish for is?
All species of fish get me excited, but if I was to go fish for myself I would likely be chasing trout.
Specialty in Alaska or strengths as a guide?
I think my patience while guiding has made for enjoyable days on the water.
