by Michael Bales – Head Guide for Alaska Rainbow Lodge
What an amazing week of fishing here at ARL! – This week our guests landed LOTS of rainbow trout over 20 plus inches!!
The biggest fish of the week was 29″ with several 27″ and 28+” fish to hand. The photos in this BLOG are dedicated to the Lake Iliamna drainage rainbow trout. Imagine a fish going into you flyline backing several times making incredible runs similar to that of a bonefish. This is what these fish are famous the world over for!! Blistering runs and high jumping acrobatics are the norm for these hard fighting rainbow trout. The chums are spawning in the Kvichak, the Kings are spawning in the Naknek and the Silvers have started spawning in the Talarik – This makes for some really incredible trout fishing!! AND IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER in the coming weeks!
