by Michael Bales, Head Guide at Alaska Rainbow Lodge

Hello again from the Kvichak River here in beautiful Bristol Bay Alaska!

August is here and that means a few things, Rainbow trout have started to feast on sockeye eggs and the Cohos have arrived! These past few weeks have seen some excellent rainbow trout fishing on rivers like the American, Moraine Creek, and the Kvichak to name a few. We also started to catch limits of Silvers on rivers like the Kvichak, Kamishak and the Alagnak. Last week the lodge was full of returning guests from Florida for a spectacular week of fishing. We did not have one day of rain and the weather was beautiful with some days reaching the high 60’s!

As the season progresses, the rainbows will only continue to grow as will the Arctic Char and those wonderful Dolly Varden.
