by Michael Bales – Head Guide for Alaska Rainbow Lodge

After countless hours of researching & planning, ordering & shipping for months this winter getting all of our supplies needed for our 2014 season, it is finally being packed and loaded in Seattle this week!!  Another sure sign that we are in high gear preparing for this season’s fishing and our valued guests.  Ron has been in Seattle overseeing the delivery and packaging of everything with our shipping agent.  As well as testing out his new camera, as you can see by these photos.

Alaska Fly Fishing

Barge from Seattle to Naknek.

A 40 foot shipping container weighing 20,000 lbs. of our supplies for this year will be packed and secured to leave Seattle and eventually end up in Naknek, Alaska.  On this shipment will be a new Mule 4WD, new flooring for the main lodge, lumber for staff cabins, additional sections of our float dock, paper goods, sodas, beer, snacks, furniture, fishing tackle, fly rods and everything else you can possibly imagine that is necessary to run a fly-out fishing lodge in the remote Alaska backcountry. Once it reaches Naknek, (Expected mid-May).  We will then place it onto yet another barge for transit through Kvichak bay and it will ride the tide up the Kvichak River to Alaska Rainbow Lodge to be offloaded for the 2014 fishing season.
