Lodge Improvements are Underway

We finalized the close-down of the lodge for our 2013 season but our work never ends at Alaska Rainbow Lodge. Nor does our commitment to providing our customers with the best and most comfortable lodge in Alaska. Last year, we installed a new wide-body dock in front of our lodge on the Kvichak River to create more space for planes, boats and people. It’s a great dock and makes getting to and from your fishing destination a lot safer. We took delivery of a new stove to prepare all the outstanding meals our guests enjoy. We got a good start on two out of three staff cabins —definitely a busy season.

On the drawing board for 2014 – finishing two staff cabins and building one more staff cabin; a new diesel generator; new engine for one of our de Havilland Beaver aircraft; new 3-D GPS units for all our aircraft; a new engine and jet drive for our Wooldridge boat; new carpet in the main lodge; tile in all the bathrooms and a tile floor in the mud room.

The logistics of ordering, shipping and actually taking delivery of product at our remote location means we have to plan projects at least a year in advance. We order products in Seattle and ship the items to Alaska. The barge reaches Naknek, our delivery point, around April 20th. Of course, we’re not there yet. The local barge company runs up the Kvichak, our home river, around mid-June. By that time we have anglers in-house so some of the projects are delayed until the following spring, when we can tear up and replace equipment without affecting our fishermen.

Like I said, the work never ends. But the investment pays off year after year. As most of you know, Alaska Rainbow Lodge stands committed to delivering the best possible Alaska Fishing experience; from world-class salmon and trout fishing on over 30 different rivers to luxurious appointments at the lodge. Anything we can do to make your fishing adventure the “trip of a lifetime” is our mission. So if you have any ideas on what else we can do to improve the experience at the lodge, please leave a reply below – we always appreciate your comments.

Tight lines my friends. We have to get back to work!
